Advent is the period of four Sundays and weeks before Christmas. Advent means 'Coming' in Latin. This is the coming of Jesus into the world. Christians use the four Sundays and weeks of Advent to prepare and remember the real meaning of Christmas. It begins on the Sunday nearest November 30th, the feast day of St. Andrew the Apostle, this year Advent begins on Sunday November 27th. There are different ways to count the days of the advent, but the most popular is with an Advent calendar. In fact, the first sign of Christmas in an English home is the children's advent calendar. She couldn't buy anything because she didn't have any money, but she had an idea and decided to make the calendar. Her children loved the calendars which they got every year, and when her sons was older she decided to make calendars to sell in the shops.
