Many years ago there were people called Celtics. They lived in what is now called Ireland, England and France. Every year they had a festival that marked the end of summer, for to celebrate their harvest.

At that time people thought ghosts appeared at night. So they wore scary costumes and going around the village and making noise to frighten the ghosts.

Halloween is celebrated the eve of "all Saints Day", on October 31st, has become an America tradition because when the Scottish and English settlers emigrated to America they brought their traditions and stories to the new country.

Nowadays Hallowe'en is very popular festival also in Europe.

The children make a lantern from a pumpkin that is called a "Jack o' Lantern".

They dress up in spooky costumes like witches, ghosts, vampires or scary creatures.

In the evening children go to their neighbours' houses and tell rhymes and ask gifts as sweets, chocolates, popcorn ecc. If the neighbours give a "treat", they go away, if they don't give a treat, they make a "trick".

At Halloween parties children usually play traditional games for example: "Bobbing the apples", or listen to scary stories, sitting on the floor or around a fire.

Witches with black cats, ghosts, goblins, skeletons and pumpkins, are some symbols of Halloween.

The traditional Halloween colours are: Orange that remember the harvest and the end of Summer and Black that remember the dark because Winter is coming…
